The Wax

Buy afraid....buy very afraid.

I take the hundreds of MacMall catalogs I get each month for granted. I never really take the time to sit down and settle into one. Yesterday I did.

I'm not sure what they are feeding the people in the design department, but seriously, WTF is this?

honestly, i don't relate to your incredulity.

clearly, on this particular spread, they're targeting the oft-forsaken demographic composed both of 20-30 year-old head-comets trailing tails of brunette hair-flames, and 6-8 year-old dolphins who identify LCD monitors with matriarchal feelings of warmth and compassion. As far as i'm concerned, it's about time that someone gave this group its due attention and offered it the same free shipping rights that we have all enjoyed for some time now.

Finally, we live in a world where people, animals, and head-comets alike, can "urf, edit, or just play"...together.

I knew it. These things always come back to having something to do with one's mother.

Not only is Jeremy 100% correct -- and let's hear it for his insightful analysis of this neo-Freudian form of commercial manipulation -- but I feel MacMall is to be praised for recognizing that, for the most part, dolphins and head-comets are in the market for low- to mid-priced laptops. Think about it. Portability is key for both of these demographics, and considering the salt-water and empty-space exposure these machines are about to endure, you know their purchasers aren't exactly wanting to drop $4k on a tricked-out 17" PowerBook.

Don't forget the progressive nature of offering free shipping to head comets. Do you think it's cheap to send a laptop to a head comet in its elliptical orbit? MacMall is doing something that the Republican dominated legislature is actively against, what with the "Defense of Comets Act" that will charge extra for delivery to head comets. So kudos to MacMall and kudos to head comets for fighting the good fight for quality portable computers at reasonable delivery prices.
