AOL IMAP A-OKAY.

AOL has opened it proprietary doors and allowed IMAP in. This lets you use one client to check all your mail...so you've got that going for you...which is nice.

Unless you have loads of proprietary accounts...which in that case, you're screwed.

imap.aol.com (inbound)

smtp.aol.com (outbound)

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol, formerly known as the Interactive Mail Access Protocol) is a protocol for e-mail clients to retrieve e-mail messages from, and work with the mailboxes on, a mail server. IMAP is the protocol that IMAP clients use to communicate with the servers. SMTP is the protocol used to transport mail to an IMAP server.

Am I wrong, or is this interesting only so long as you have an AOL account? Does this include most people?

I guess I don't quite understand what's so nice about this; seems like most people I know use hotmail or yahoo, which allow IMAP for a small fee.

You're not wrong. It's only interesting for AOL people (Which I am not primarily, but I do have an account through familial ties). But that doesn't mean you need to crap on it dude.

AOL, like many of the other proprietary groups, have been preventing people from being able to use IMAP/POP for downloading mail. This newness could be construed as AOL lightening up. It could also be a toss to entice people to continue using AOL instead of switching to some other service. Additionally, its free IMAP. Free is good.

What I don't understand is why you want to charge people for the internet? Next thing you'll prolly be okay with Microsoft charging a "small fee" for each mail sent. Why do you want to make kittens cry?
